Fort Worth Stockyard: Famous Cowtown


During the year 1849 the major Ripley Arnold who was the leader of a group of soldiers were sent to Fort Worth to defend the settlers in the north of Texas. By 1853 the border was moved to the west and the fort was neglected and the edifications that were there were converted in the town of Fort Worth. Three years later the habitants stole the records of the county form Birdville, in that way they won the county settle.

In a small time the new town of Fort Worth became an important stop especially for cattlemen of the surroundings. Soon, many cowboys brought their cattle herding to the town; they branded them, and went to the north for a large benefit. In the year 1866 the city was known as a Cowtown. Very fast the city was converted in the leader of cattle businesses.

Many people who came to the city converted it in a city. Some of them established saloons, restaurants and other businesses. Many years after, the habitants decided to create the Fort Worth Stockyards which became in one of the most important beef suppliers of the country until the 1960’s when the Swift and Armour companies closed their doors.

By 1976 the Fort Worth Stockyards was modernized and today is one of the most important historical places in all the state of Texas. It is located in Fort Worth, TX and is open everyday.
