Jean Lafitte was a colorful pirate of the 19th century who founded his own kingdom in the bayous and swamps of New Orleans, but he was run out of his reign and in 1817 he established a new kingdom in Galveston, Texas. There, he accumulated great amounts of treasure, and four or five years later he left Galveston because of problems with the schooner USS Enterprise. Nothing was heard about him again after his departure. Since then, rumors of his treasure hidden somewhere along the coast have arisen, and until today, no one has found Lafitte’s fortune.
