San Benito




Texas is a state located in the southern and western regions of the United States of America. The state is second largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston which is the largest in the United States in international commerce and the sixth largest port in the world.
 
San Benito is a city in Cameron County, Texas, United States of America. The population was 23,444 at the 2000 census where there were 23,444 people, 7,065 households and 5,715 families residing in the city. It is the birthplace of country and Tex Mex music icon Freddy Fender. The San Benito consolidated the independent school district, in addition south Texas independent school district and many nearby communities by providing several magnet schools. South Texas academy of medical technology is located in San Benito.
 
San Benito is slowly becoming a centre of industry, education, administration and culture. Recently the city has undergone some improvements in various fields and became a popular destination for tourism.
