San Angelo




Texas is a state located in the southern and western regions of the United States of America. The state is second largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries and for its ship channel at the port of Houston which is the largest in the United States in international commerce and the sixth largest port in the world.
 
San Angelo is a city in and the county seat of Tom Green County, Texas, United States. It is the principal city of the San Angelo, Texas metropolitan statistical area which encompasses all of both Irion and Tom green counties of Texas. San Angelo had a total population of 88,439 in 2000 census and it has a population of about 90,000 out of which over half are under the age of 40 years. The city is located on the banks of the Concho river, in the middle of the plains of western Texas at an elevation of 1,850 feet above sea level.
 
San Angelo is home to Angelo state university and a branch campus of Howard college. The city is home to the San Angelo Colts, a united league baseball minor league team as well as the San Angelo Stampede Express, a minor league indoor football team. It is also home to the Fort Concho national historic landmark, the location of a yearly Christmas festival, Christmas at old Fort Concho San Angelo enjoys a relatively mild climate with low humidity levels and about 250 days of sunshine.

The main attractions of the city are Angelo state university Planetarium, Paint Brush Alley the historic cactus hotel, which was converted to a cultural center and Fort Concho national historic landmark. Outdoor recreational activities are plentiful in lake Nasworthy, Twin Buttes and San Angelo state park's O.C. fisher reservoir. Due to all these attractions, pleasant climate and historical importance the city is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Texas and is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over and hence San Angelo enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
