Mesquite




Texas is a state located in the southern and western regions of the United States of America. The state is second largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston which is the largest in the United States in international commerce and the sixth largest port in the world.

Mesquite is a suburb of Dallas located in Dallas county and Kaufman county, Texas. The city had a total population of 124,523 in the 2000 census which increased to 129,902 in the 2005 census. Mesquite is home to the Mesquite championship rodeo and to computer video game producer identification software, creators of Doom and Quake. According to census bureau, the city has a total area of 112.6 square kilometers out of which 112.5 square kilometers is land and 0.1 square kilometers is water. The population density was 1,107.3 per square kilometers. The Mesquite city was created on May 22, 1873 by A.R. Alcott, a Texas and Pacific railway engineer.

A small portion of Mesquite is served by Dallas independent school district while another small area in Kaufman county is served by Forney independent school district. It is the home of Mesquite high school, north Mesquite high school, west Mesquite high school, Poteet high school and John Horn high school. Higher education is provided by Eastfield college and Dallas county community college district. The state University of commerce Mesquite metroplex center provides graduate level courses and degrees in a variety of fields.

Mesquite is served by a publicly owned and operated airport that includes a 6,000 feet lighted runway. General aviation comprises approximately 75 percent of daily operations while commercial aviation comprises the rest. Mesquite metro airport is popular among transient aircraft due to its location near Dallas and favorable fuel prices. The city is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Texas is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
