Nacogdoches

Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.

Nacogdoches is a city in Nacogdoches County, Texas, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 29,914. It is the county seat of Nacogdoches county and is situated in East Texas. Nacogdoches entered the news in February 2003, as one of the East Texas towns that received much of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster debris.

Nacogdoches is approximately 140 miles North Northeast of Houston, 130 miles Southeast of Dallas and 90 miles Southwest of Shreveport. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 65,5 square kilometers. About 65,3 square kilometers of its area are covered by land and 0,2 square kilometers is covered by water. The city center is located just to the north of the fork of two creeks, the LaNana and Banita.

Nacogdoches is the oldest town in Texas. Evidence of settlement on the same site dates back to 10,000 years ago. It was the location of a Caddo settlement starting around 700 BC, Before Christ and was one of the European settlements in the region. The city has been under more flags than the state of Texas, claiming up to 9 flags.

In addition to the six flags of Texas, it also flew under these flags, the Magee-Gutierrez Republic, the Long Republic, and the Fredonia Republic. In 1912, the Marx Brothers came to town to perform their singing act at the old Opera house. Most of the audience left the building, apparently thinking a runaway mule would provide better entertainment. The city of Nacogdoches is served by the Nacogdoches independent school district.

Nacogdoches can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism place that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
