Mount Pleasant
Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.
Mount Pleasant is a city in Titus County, Texas, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 13,935. It is the county seat of Titus County, and is situated in Northeast Texas. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 33,0 square kilometers, 32,5 square kilometers of its area is covered by land and 0.5 square kilometers by water.
The city of Mount Pleasant is served by the Mount Pleasant independent school district. The city of Mount Pleasant is served by Titus regional medical center. Centrally located in the beautiful Northeast Texas region, Mount Pleasant offers easy access to seven lakes which provide year round recreational opportunities, including water sports and fishing. Known as the hub of Northeast Texas, Mount Pleasant, the county seat of Titus County, boasts a healthy economy based on agri-business, industry, tourism, and wholesale and retail trade. A Texas main street city, Mount Pleasant has been named one of the 100 best small towns in America.
A few remaining members of the Caddo Indian Tribe were probably in the area as the first pioneers from the United States began to settle Northeast Texas during the 1830's. The Caddos were known as builders of large burial mounds. It is believed that the early Anglo settlers modified this Caddo name and referred to the broad, oak and hickory covered hill as Pleasant Mount.
Mount Pleasant can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism place that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
