Lufkin




Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.

Lufkin is a city in Angelina County, Texas, United States. The population was 32,709 as of the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Angelina County, and is situated in East Texas. The town is named for Abraham P. Lufkin, a cotton merchant and Galveston, Texas city councilman. Lufkin was the son-in-law of Paul Bremond, president of the Houston, East and West Texas Railway which developed the town.

Founded in 1882, Lufkin is home to Lufkin Industries, which manufactures and services oil field equipment, power transmissions, and highway trailers. It is also a leading supplier of creosote. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 69.5 square kilometers and 69.2 square kilometers of it is covered by land and 0.3 square kilometers by water. The population density of the city was 473.0 per square kilometers. There were 13,402 housing units at an average density of 193.8 per square kilometers.

It's also a surprise to find a city complete with superior bass fishing, top notch golfing, state of the art museums, an outstanding zoo, quality hotels and restaurants, incredibly charming downtown, and the friendliest people on earth. Almost all of Lufkin is served by the Lufkin independent school district. All Lufkin students attend Lufkin high  school. A few small sections in the west are within the Hudson independent school district. Angelina college serves the Lufkin area. Stephen F. Austin State university is located in nearby  Nacogdoches. Also the Kurth Memorial Library is a part Lufkin.

Presently, Lufkin experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Texas. This fact has consolidated along with other adjacent cities, as a great alternative for residence.
