La Porte




Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.
 
La Porte is a city in Harris County, Texas within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown Metropolitan Area. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, the city population was 31,880. La Porte is the fourth largest incorporated city in Harris County. La Porte is most famous as the location of the Battle of San Jacinto on 21 April 1836, which ended the Texas revolution, establishing the independence of the Republic of Texas from Mexico. The San Jacinto Monument in Deer Park commemorates the battle. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 51.7 square kilometers. 49.1 square kilometers of it is land and 2.7 square kilometers of it is water. The population density was 649.9 square kilometers. Pupils in La Porte go to schools in La Porte Independent School District. It is served by the La Porte Branch of Harris County Public Library.

An excursion train brought patrons from Houston to La Porte each day to visit Sylvan Beach, the playground of the South. The original depot has been restored and today is a museum. It is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
