Kerrville




Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.
 
Kerrville is a city in Kerr County, Texas, United States. The population of the city was 20,425 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Kerr County. Kerrville is named for James Kerr, a major in the confederate army, and friend of town founder Joshua Brown, who settled in the area to start a cypress shingle mill. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 43.9 square kilometers, out of which 43.3 square kilometers of it is covered by land and 0.6 square kilometers that is 1.36 percent by water.
 
The city of Kerrville is served by the Kerrville Independent School District. The city has also been the home of Schreiner University since 1923. The annual Kerr County Fair provides the residents of Kerr County and adjacent counties an opportunity to exhibit their finished skills and recognizes their achievements. Among the activities featured are a parade through downtown Kerrville, a carnival, contests, scholarship pageants, livestock exhibits, food and drink, music, dancing, team roping and the exciting bull and barrel contest. Chili barbeque cook-offs, petting zoo, and pony rides.

Presently, Kerrville experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Texas.
