Henderson




Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.

Henderson is a city in Rusk County, Texas, United States. The population was 11,273 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Rusk CountyGR6. Henderson is named for James Pinckney Henderson, the first governor of the state of Texas. Annual events in the city of Henderson include the Heritage Syrup Festival in November, celebrating the east Texas tradition of syrup making, and the East Texas Sacred Harp Convention in August. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 31.1 square kilometers. 30.8 square kilometers of it is land and 0.3 square kilometers of it is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 11,273 people, 4,350 households, and 2,971 families residing in the city. The population density was 365.8 square kilometers. There were 4,831 housing units at an average density of 156.7 square kilometers. The racial makeup of the city was 68.98 percent White, 22.34 percent African American, 0.27 percent Native American, 0.47 percent Asian, 0.01 percent Pacific Islander, 6.80 percent from other races, and 1.13 percent from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 11.80 percent of the population. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Texas one of the most visited places amongst the most die-hard travelers the world over.
