According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.4 square kilometers. 13.4 square kilometers of it is land and 0.19 percent is water. Groves is named after Keith Groves of Middlesbrough, England.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 15,733 people, 6,182 households, and 4,512 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,172.7 square kilometers. There were 6,570 housing units at an average density of 489.7 square kilometers. The racial makeup of the city was 93.46 percent White, 1.32 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 1.65 percent Asian, 0.03 percent Pacific Islander, 1.98 percent from other races, and 1.29 percent from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 7.82 percent of the population. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Texas one of the most visited places amongst the most die-hard travelers the world over.
