Clute




Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.
 
Clute is a city in Brazoria County, Texas within the Houston Sugar Land Baytown Metropolitan Area. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, the city population was 10,424. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.6 square kilometers, 9 square kilometers of it is land and 0.8 square kilometers of it is water.
 
There were 3,674 households out of which 41.0 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3 percent were married couples living together, 14.5 percent had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2 percent were non-families. 24.0 percent of all households were made up of individuals and 4.7 percent had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.35. In the city the population was spread out with 31.4 percent under the age of 18, 13.5 percent from 18 to 24, 31.1 percent from 25 to 44, 16.4 percent from 45 to 64, and 7.6 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 101.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.7 males.
