Carrollton




Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.
 
Carrollton is a city in Texas, partially in Dallas County, partially in Denton County, and partially in Collin County. As of 2003, census estimates the city's total population to be 116,714. Carrollton is a suburb of Dallas. The city of Carrollton has been named to America's 2006 top hundred places to live for 2006 by relocate America. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 94.9 square kilometers, 94.5 square kilometers of it is land and 0.5 square kilometers of it is water.
 
There are 39,136 households, of these, 41.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.1 percent were married couples living together, 9.9 percent had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.1 percent were non-families. 20.1 percent of all households were made up of individuals and 2.9 percent had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.25. Most of Carrollton is a part of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District. Dallas Independent School District also serves a small portion of Carrollton in the south, along with the Lewisville Independent School District in the north.
 
Carrollton's early settlers arrived in the 1840s. These early settlers purchased land from The Peters Colony. These hardy pioneers were rugged individuals with incredible courage to risk it all for their dream of a better life and an even better life for future generations. These people had the determination to withstand the hardships of their treacherous journeys to this untamed frontier a foreign and wild country.
