Canyon




Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.
 
Canyon is a city in Randall County, Texas, United States. The population was 12,875 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Randall CountyGR6. It is the home of West Texas A&M University and Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. Palo Duro Canyon State Park can be found 10 miles east of Canyon.
 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.8 square kilometers, all land. There were 4,802 households out of which 33.1 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.8 percent were married couples living together, 10.8 percent had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.1 percent were non-families. 29.8 percent of all households were made up of individuals and 8.7 percent had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 3.05.
