Balch Springs




Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. Balch Springs is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 19,375 at the 2000 census. Balch Springs is a suburb of Dallas. Before being renamed to Balch Springs, the city was known as Zip City. In the 1980's Balch Springs attempted to be annexed to another city, once to Mesquite, Texas and another time to Dallas. However, neither vote was successful.

There were 6,175 households out of which 46.6 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.8 percent were married couples living together, 20.5 percent had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.8 percent were non-families. 16.7 percent of all households were made up of individuals and 3.8 percent had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.13 and the average family size was 3.49.
 
In the city the population was spread out with 34.1 percent under the age of 18, 10.7 percent from 18 to 24, 32.2 percent from 25 to 44, 17.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 5.8 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.5 males.
 
The southwest portion of Balch Springs is served by Dallas Independent School District, while the northeast portion is served by Mesquite Independent School District. The two portions are roughly each one half of the city. There is also a private Christian school within the Balch Springs city limits. Balch Springs Christian Academy serves students from Kindergarden to 12th grade. This school was also involved in a bus accident in the summer of 1987 near the Guadalupe River in south Texas.

Balch Springs is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
