Cadillac Ranch: An Awesome Tribute

Cadillac is a famous brand of luxury automobiles. In 1974, Doug Michels, Chip Lord and Hudson Marquez (collectively known as Ant Farm) created Cadillac Ranch, a tribute to Cadillac for being the best automobile brand in America.

This public art installation is located in Amarillo, Texas; first it was located in a field of wheat but the installation was moved two miles to the west in 1997. Now, it can be found in a cow pasture along Interstate 40. The movement was made in order to place Cadillac Ranch away from the limits of the city, which continued to grow. Stanley Marsh III was the owner of both of the location sites of Cadillac Ranch; he is an eccentric, down to earth millionaire that supported the project of Cadillac Ranch.

Ant Farm placed 10 Cadillac’s in ten big holes that were dug in the wheat field, the cars were placed there to “rest” with the front end driven into the holes. These cars show the evolution of the brand from 1949 to 1963. People who love cars might view this place a sanctuary where a sacrilege occurred but the truth of the matter is that these 10 cars would most likely have ended in a lonely junk yard. This attraction can be seen from the highway and it can be visited. If you visit this amazing place, you will be able to write graffiti in the cars and use spray-paints. Cadillac Ranch will exist for a long time; do not miss the chance to visit this tribute.
