The Moody Gardens opened its doors in 1986. In that time the main objective was to provide hippo therapy programs and it was called Moody Foundation. In the same year they expanded their services including horticultural and animal therapy as well as employment and education for those persons that suffered emotional and physical disabilities. They also built the Moody Garden Convention Center. Two years later, thousands of white sand of Florida was brought on ships to the gardens to create an artificial beach.
In 1990 they created two greenhouses to cultivate numerous plants and introduce a medicinal plants program and three years later they imported more than 1,700 exotic plants from the rainforests of the tropical America, Africa and Asia. The garden is so big than some filmmakers have borrowed it to film some scenes. By the year 1999 the Moody Gardens inaugurated the Moody Gardens Hotel which has 303 rooms. In the same year they also opened an aquarium which exhibits species from the North Pacific, Tropical Pacific, the Caribbean, and South Atlantic Ocean. This is one of the biggest aquariums of the world. Today Moody Gardens is one of the premier recreational and educational facilities in the Southwest of the US which main objective is to help people that have suffered head damages. If you are looking for a nice place to escape from the stress of your routine, think in the Moody Gardens as a strong option.
