The Arboretum: Oasis in the City
The Arboretum is a botanical garden which is located in the shores of the White Rock Lake, to the east of the city of Dallas, TX. It is open everyday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and it is offered for special activities such as weddings or private activities among others. This place is considered as an oasis in the middle of an exciting and effervescent city.
The garden has an extension of 66 acres and is located at only 20 minutes from Dallas downtown. It posses special access for people with disabilities. The place is visited by more than 3,000 tourists yearly. The majority of these tourists are from other states of the US and some from other countries. Often people ask the meaning of the word arboretum; this word is a derivation of a Latin word that means area cultivated of trees. The Arboretum is house for more than 100 species of trees. One of the main objectives of the creation of this garden is for the study of some species. This due to the weather of Dallas, which can receive a lot of rain or nothing at all.
This place is owned by the City of Dallas and is supported by the Dallas Park and Recreation Department and is operated by the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Society. It is a non for profit organization and the money obtained from the admittance fee is used to support the investigation of the species of the garden.
