West University Place
Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world. West University Place is a city located in the U.S. state of Texas within the Houston Sugar Land Baytown metropolitan area and Harris County. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, the city population was 14,211. West University Place is completely surrounded by the cities of Houston, Bellaire and Southside Place. As of 2000, West University Place is the 9th wealthiest location in Texas by per capita income. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 square kilometers. As of the census of 2000, there were 14,211 people, 5,286 households, and 4,059 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,729.8 per square kilometers.
