Southlake
Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world. Southlake is a city located primarily in the northeastern part of Tarrant County, Texas. A small northernly region of the city is in Denton County, United States. The population of the city was 21,519 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 58.1 square kilometers, out of which 56.7 square kilometers of its area is covered by land and 1.4 square kilometers by water. Most of Southlake is in the Carroll Independent School District. Small portions of the city extend into the Northwest Independent School District, Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, and Keller Independent School District. The department of economic development's mission is to help create a diversified, vibrant and sustainable economy through attraction and support of businesses meeting the vision and standards desired by city leaders. Each year the Texas American Planning Association, TXAPA recognizes organizations and communities for outstanding contributions to planning in Texas. In November 2005, the building services division of the department of public safety was merged with the planning department to form a new building inspections division within the department. With this merger, the range of services now offered by the planning department includes building plan reviews, building permits, and inspections. Code enforcement and fire services are still going to be offered by the department of public safety.
Southlake, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and pursue enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
