Plainview
Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world. Plainview is a city in Hale County, Texas, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 22,336. It is the county seat of Hale County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 35.7 square kilometers, all covered by land. The city of Plainview is served by the Plainview independent school district. Wayland Baptist University is a four-year university with approximately 1100 students at its main campus in Plainview. The city of Plainview is comfortably nestled in West Texas. This community of roughly 22,000 offers many of the amenities more often found in larger sister cities, yet Plainview manages to do so while maintaining a hearty hometown feel. Plainview adjoins I-27, which connects various Texas metropolitans, such as Amarillo to the North and Lubbock to the South. The city of Plainview was chartered on July 3, 1888, and was designated as the county seat of Hale County, Texas, soon thereafter. In 1906 the Pecos and Northern Texas railway reached town and brought with it an agricultural and an industrial boom. The growing city was incorporated in 1907.
