Midlothian

Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade.

Midlothian is a city in Ellis County, Texas, United States. As of 2006, the city population was 13,200. Midlothian has been called The Steel and Cement Capital of Texas by local journalists, as three large cement manufacturers and one large steel manufacturer are located in and around the city. That same area was initially designated as the site for the Super conducting Super Collider project which was eventually halted by the United States House of Representatives in 1993.

The City limits of Midlothian cover approximately 53 square miles and the extra-territorial jurisdiction another 33 square miles. The population density of the city was 76.6 per square kilometers. There were 2,792 housing units at an average density of 28,6 per square kilometers.

In 1843 Sam Houston opened up what is presently known as Ellis County. At that time, the area was known as Peters Colony and there were a small number of settlers living there. The few who did live in the area trapped animals for fur and sold it for a living. Indians were also common in the area, although very few settlers feared them.

Midlothian has high number of bands that have come from it, a recent study showed that in four years more than 60 bands have formed in Midlothian. Due to a strict school and conservative community, these bands are mostly of the rock genre. Music teachers such as Beth Kerzee have encouraged this, and several of the bands have gone on to be signed by major labels such as Victory. There are two primary venues for music in Midlothian, The Lighthouse, where bands such as Photodrive play, and the Midlothian Bible Church.

The city of Midlothian is served by the Midlothian independent school district and Navarro College. Midlothian can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism place that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
