Longview




Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.

Longview is a city in Texas, United States, located between Dallas, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. The population of the city was 73,345 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Gregg County, with a small portion extending east into neighboring Harrison County. It is situated in East Texas, on the grid of Interstate 20 and U.S. United States, highways 80 and 259. Longview is located on the Sabine River. According to the United States Census bureau, the city has a total area of 141.8 square kilometers. Out of the total area 141.6 square kilometers is covered by land and 0.3 square kilometers is  covered by water.

The city of Longview was officially incorporated on May 17, 1871, but its boom came after the 1930 discovery of East Texas oil fields. A large portion of western Longview is served by the Pine tree independent school district. A portion of northwestern Longview is served by the spring hill independent school district. A very small portion of eastern Longview is served by the Hallsville independent school district.

Longview is also said to be as the town of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and pursue enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
