Highland Village
Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world. Highland village is a small city in denton county, texas, hugging the south side of the far western branch of lewisville lake. As of the 2000 census the city population was 12,173, though the most recent projection by the U.S. Census bureau puts the city's population close to 15,000. A number of residential communities are located within highland village, including highland shores and castlewood. According to the united states census bureau, the city has a total area of 16.6 square kilometers out of which 14.3 square kilometers of its area is covered by land and 2.3 square kilometers by water. The population density of the city is 851.5 per square kilometers. There were 4,009 housing units at an average density of 280.4 per square kilometers. The racial makeup of the city was 94.21 percent white, 1.47 percent african american, 0.40 percent native american, 1.92 percent asian, 0.02 percent pacific islander, 0.80 percent from other races, and 1.18 percent from two or more races. Hispanic or latino of any race were 3.46 percent of the population.
Highland Village is served by the Lewisville independent school district, which has three elementary schools and one middle school located in the city. Marcus High School, located in Flower Mound but near Highland Village, is the city's principal high school. Highland Village hosts an annual hot-air balloon festival sponsored by local Lions Clubs.
Highland Village can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism place that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
