Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.
 
Farmers Branch is a city in Dallas County, Texas United State. The city is a suburb of Dallas and is part of the Dallas/Fort worth Metroplex. The population was 27,508 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 31.1 square kilometers and 0.08 square kilometers of water. As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 27,508 people, 9,766 households, and 6,933 families residing in the city. The population density was 885.1 square kilometers.
 
There were 10,115 housing units at an average density of 325.5 square kilometers. The racial makeup of the city was 78.38 percent White, 2.40 percent African American, 0.55 percent Native American, 2.92 percent Asian, 0.03 percent Pacific Islander, 13.01 percent from other races and 2.71 percent from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 37.23 percent of the population.
 
Most of Farmers Branch is a part of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District. Dallas Independent School district also serves a small portion of Farmers Branch. Farmers Branch is home to Dallas Christian College, a Four-Year Bible College, and Brookhaven College, a community college of the Dallas County Community College District, DCCCD.

Farmer's Branch was one of fifteen cities to approve services of DART, Dallas Area Rapid Transit in 1983 by levying a 1 cent sales tax. The city currently receives DART bus service, with service to downtown Dallas by regular route and express bus, Carrollton and crosstown routes as well. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Texas one of the most visited places amongst the most die-hard travelers the world over.
