Conroe




Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade.

The city of Conroe is the county seat of Montgomery County in the U.S. state of Texas within the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, the city population was 36,811. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 98.1 square kilometers, out of which 97.9 square kilometers of its area is covered by land and 0. 2 square kilometers is covered by water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 36,811 people, 13,145 households, and 8,728 families residing in the city. The population density of the city was 376.1 per square kilometers. There were 14,378 housing units at an average density of 146.9 per square kilometers. The racial makeup of the city was 71.16 percent white, 11.13 percent African American, 0.40 percent Native American, 0.95 percent Asian, 0.05 percent Pacific Islander, 13.38 percent from other races, and 2.93 percent from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 32.62 percent of the population.
 
In the city the population was spread out with 28.1 percent under the age of 18, 13.4 percent from 18 to 24, 31.6 percent from 25 to 44, 17.3 percent from 45 to 64, and 9.7 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.9 males.

Students in Conroe attend schools within the Conroe Independent School District. All of Conroe is zoned to Conroe High School. The city is also served by North Harris Montgomery Community College District. The city also has the Central Library of the Montgomery County Memorial Library System. Conroe can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism place that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
