Burleson
Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world. Burleson is a city located partially in Johnson County and partially in Tarrant County in Texas. As of the 2004, the population was 27,932, up from 20,976 in 2000. Burleson is the hometown of singer and American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. It was also in Burleson in which the annual Christianity-related at the Pole event originated. Burleson was notable for being a prohibition or almost completely dry town, until the November 7, 2006 election when alcohol sales were legalized. The northern reaches of Burleson lie in Tarrant County, and merchants are allowed to sell alcoholic beverages. The town of Burleson was founded in 1881. According to Burleson, the first hundred years, the land for the town was purchased by G. M. Dodge from Reverend H. C. Renfro. An early abstract records Dodge as being from Pottowattamie County, Iowa. The town was named for Rufus C. Burleson, President of Baylor University at Waco. The official incorporation as a Town came in 1912. Burleson was made a city in 1938, and adopted a Home Rule Charter as a council-manager government in 1969. Through the years Burleson has grown to a population of over 30,300. The city has become a commercial hub of Johnson County and one of the most livable communities in the Dallas Worth metroplex. The heritage of the community is strong and is kept alive through the Burleson Heritage Foundation.
Burleson is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in Texas worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of Texas.
