Benbrook
Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.
Benbrook is a city located in the southwestern corner of Tarrant County, Texas. In 2004, the population was 21,646 according to the United States Census Bureau, up from 20,208 in 2000 and 19,564 in 1990. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 31.2 square kilometers 29.7 square kilometers of it is land and 1.6 square kilometers of it is water. The total area is 4.98 percent water, and the primary body of water is Benbrook Lake, formed in 1952 after the construction of Benbrook Dam by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which began in May 1947. In the city the population was spread out: 22.3 percent under the age of 18, 7.6 percent ranging from 18 to 24, 29.8 percent ranging from 25 to 44, 25.7 percent from 45 to 64, and 14.7 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.9 males. In 1949, two years after Benbrook was incorporated as a village, the sale of liquor and beer was made illegal. In 1951, the citizens voted to make taverns illegal. The Fort Worth Independent School District oversees Benbrook's public schools. Two elementary schools, Benbrook Elementary and Westpark Elementary, are located in Benbrook. Waverly Park Elementary in Fort Worth also serves portions of Benbrook. After completion of their elementary education, Benbrook children proceed to Leonard Sixth Grade Center and then Leonard Middle School.
A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Benbrook is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
