Allen




Texas is a state located in the Southern and Western regions of the United States of America. The state is second-largest in both area and population behind Alaska and California, respectively. The state's name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai. Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for its ship channel at the Port of Houston, the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world.
 
Allen is a city in Collin County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 43,554. As of September 2005, the city's population is estimated at 69,891. The total area of the city Allen was 68.2 square kilometers and its population density was 638.4 persons per square kilometers.
 
According to the United States Census Bureau, after buying the Chase Oaks Golf Course the city has a total area of 68.2 square kilometers. 68.2 square kilometers of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
 
In the city the population was spread out with 34.9 percent under the age of 18, 5.4 percent from 18 to 24, 40.7 percent from 25 to 44, 16.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 2.8 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males. According to the 2005 census, population was 69,222.

The town was founded in 1870 as a railroad stop for the Houston and Texas Railroad, connecting the railway with nearby farms. The first railway dam used to facilitate the railway still stands at Exchange Park. The town was named after former Texas attorney general and railroad promoter Ebenezer Allen.
